Advanced Filmmaking

This course will prepare students for industry expectations in the workplace. Continuing to focus on key creative areas of filmmaking and digital content creation in a genre of the student’s choosing, students will work in a crew on the post-production phase of a short-form production.

Concept Art for Entertainment

On the road where illustration and film-making meet, there is Concept Art. Also known as conceptual art or concept design, concept art’s purpose and approach are the same whether animation, live action or gaming; to convey visually a proposed idea of “look and feel” before it is realized in the final product.

Graphic Design

graphic design is the art of communication through layout, photos, color, and typography. Graphic designers craft authentic narratives with visuals so viewers can easily read and enjoy different digital and print content. This art form also exists at the convergence of business and creativity. Traditionally, we tend to think of graphic design as a purely creative field consisting of artists and those who can draw. Although creativity is a big part of graphic design, strategic business thinking is just as valuable, as graphic design serves as a crucial function in crafting marketing messages for businesses. So many aspects of the modern environment — the movie poster you walk by, the mail in your mailbox, the website you visit, the email you receive — are created by someone who understands and practices the art of graphic design. For the companies who commission these design projects, graphic design is a gateway to new clients, new viewers, and most importantly, more money.

Interactive Media Design

Interactive media is any electronic that responds to a human command in a specific and defined way. Interactive media includes not only video games, but also is the underlying principal to applications on a smart phone because they react to your touch. Search engines are another example because they respond to queries you type into the search boxes. Advertising has embraced interactive media. You can go to a variety of websites and upload your own photo to see what you’d look like with a different hair color or style. You’ll also find websites with interactive media designed simply for personal amusement, where you can do things like see how you’d look if you were turned into a zombie.

User Experience (UX) Design

User experience (UX) design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. UX design involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability and function.

3D Animation

Computer animation has evolved to become a major component in the field of animation production and contributes towards shaping content for film, television, games and online applications. As such, students must be actively engaged in all aspects of the production process and understand the requirements associated with the production pipeline. Traditional design, drawing and storytelling skills are enhanced via the latest computer (software/hardware), combined with 3D animation skills and the creation of characters and customized environments contribute towards the creation of unique content that graduates will utilize in their e-portfolio of project work.

Design and Visual Arts

The visual arts are art forms that create works that are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, film making and architecture. These definitions should not be taken too strictly as many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the visual arts are the applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art.The current usage of the term “visual arts” includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts, but this was not always the case. Before the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th century, the term ‘artist’ was often restricted to a person working in the fine arts (such as painting, sculpture, or printmaking) and not the handicraft, craft, or applied art media. The distinction was emphasized by artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement who valued vernacular art forms as much as high forms. Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts maintaining that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of art.
